WHY IT'S AWESOME?Ā Legend has it that tourmaline passed through the rainbow on its way to earth, and thatās what gives it all its colors.Ā Although often thought of as black, tourmaline is the most colorful mineral known, naturally occuring in almost every color of the rainbow!!Ā Tourmaline possesses a unique crystal structure, which means its atoms are arranged in a specific repeating pattern. This structure allows tourmaline to exhibit piezoelectric properties, generating an electrical charge when pressure or temperature changes occur. Additionally, tourmaline displays pleochroism, meaning it can show different colors when viewed from different angles, adding to its visual appeal.
WHAT IS TOURMALINE? Tourmaline is a fascinating gemstone formed when empty spaces in rocks are filled with hot mineral-rich liquids that eventually cool and solidify. One popular variety is Black Tourmaline, also called Schorl, which makes up about 95% of all Tourmaline found in nature. The name Schorl originated from the village of Zschorlau in Saxony, Germany, and has been in use since before 1400.
WHERE IT'S FOUND? Some notable sources include Brazil, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Madagascar, Nigeria, the United States (particularly in California and Maine), Russia, and Mozambique.
